I actually used a Raspberry Pi 2 plus Edimax Wifi (before 3 was released).
If you only want 978mhz, then only need 1 NooElec NESDR Nano 2.
Some users suggest getting either a USB extender cable to put the GPS module up on the glare shield (keeping the rest of the unit out of the Sun), or getting a VK-162 instead of the VK-172.
An 8GB SD card is the minimum for a working system. You may wish to get a 16GB card to have a little room to grow.

Finally, here's an even cheaper Android-based solution: http://hiz.ch/index.php/home/adsb-receiver. It's not Stratux, but at about $20, it's hard to beat.
